How Does the Water Vapor Damage Ceramic Fiber Module

Ceramic fiber module is a kind of insulation material with excellent thermal insulation and cost effective. Its energy saving effect makes it become the favorite product for many industrial furnaces and electric heating equipments.

However, some high temperature furnaces are not suitable to use ceramic fiber modules as furnace lining, for example, the furnace environment contains water vapor.

What is the reason for this? We should start with the thermal insulation properties of ceramic fiber materials. Ceramic fiber module belongs to inorganic refractory material. It is a porous product which contains more than 96% pores. The insulation effect of the modules is achieved by porosity. If the ceramic fiber module is invaded by water vapor, the original porosity will be filled with water. As we all know, the thermal conductivity of water is very good. The ceramic fiber module containing water will also become a thermal conductor. Once the heat is transmitted through the module to the steel plate of the furnace shell, it will cause the steel plate deformation and damage the furnace.

Once we find that the ceramic fiber lining of the furnace is wet by water, it is necessary to stop the furnace immediately and deal with it under the guidance of professionals. In addition, not only ceramic fiber modules, the insulation principle of all the thermal insulation cotton (rockwool, glass fiber, etc.) is the same. In the process of transportation, storage and application, we must pay attention to waterproof and moisture-proof.
