Ceramic fiber module is a new type of furnace lining material which is light in weight and can effectively improve the thermal insulation of the furnace. The traditional heavy furnace linings not only consume a large proportion of fuel, but also directly affect the thermal insulation effect of the furnace. When heating up, almost all the heat is absorbed by the lining material. So the furnace temperature rises slowly. When cooling, the heat released is almost all the heat stored in the furnace wall, and the furnace temperature drops very slowly.
Therefore, it is very important to choose a suitable refractory lining with less heat storage. Ceramic fiber modules store less heat than other traditional heavy refractory linings. Taking heat treatment furnaces as an example, when the furnace temperature rises from 1200 degrees C to 1270 degrees C, the heavy refractory furnace lining takes 70 minutes to reach up to this temperature, however the lightweight ceramic fiber lining takes only 10 minutes.
Thus the temperature of the furnace can be controlled and the heat is less reduced. The productivity is increased and the energy consumption is saved.
For the choice of refractory furnace lining, it suggests that the full ceramic fiber lining should be used for the newly-built furnace. The ceramic fiber module plus one layer or two layers of ceramic fiber blanket is the most suitable lining installation method. For the transformation of the heavy refractory lining, a layer of ceramic fiber blanket can be adhered to the surface of the old furnace lining. This can also effectively reduce the storage heat of the furnace body and improve the thermal insulation property of the furnace.
