Glass fiber is an excellent material. It has the main characteristics and applications as follows:

Glass fiber has the characteristic of lightweight and high strength. It can be made into fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) which is a useful material for making variety of fiberglass products. Fiberglass woven roving and fiberglass mat are combined with chemical resins to fabricate fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). FRP material makes the fiberglass products excellent in applications that require high strength and light weight, for example structural components in aerospace, automotive, boat and construction fields.

Glass fiber has the characteristic and application in good thermal insulation area. It can withstand high temperature from 350 degrees C to 550 degrees C, so it can be used in the fields where high temperature resistance is required. For example, fiberglass cloth can be made into welding blankets to protect the welding workers from burn by the welding sparks and provide the welders with a safety working place. It also can protect the places to be damaged by welding sparks. Due to its performance of thermal insulation, it can be made into personal protective equipment, such as fireproof clothing, fireproof sleeves, fireproof curtains, etc. The fiberglass products are very useful in thermal insulation applications, such as in construction, thermal insulation for steam pipelines, hot cables, etc.

Glass fiber has the characteristic of good corrosion resistance to many chemical substances. It can resist the attack of acids, alkalis, solvents and many corrosive media so it has a wide range of applications in petrochemical corrosive environments. Fiberglass can be made into FRP petrochemical pipelines, storage tanks, chemical reactors, etc. It also can be used as lining material for chemical equipment to protect the equipment from corrosion by chemical substances.

Glass fiber has the characteristic of electrical and eletronical insulation. It is an excellent insulation material which can be made into electrical parts and printed circuit board. Glass fiber is soft and is an excellent material for covering and wrapping electrical motors, cables and other electrical appliances and equipments. It can effectively stop the flow of electrical current and is widely used in insulating materials and components in the fields of power, electronics and communications.

Glass fiber is a good sound absorption insulation material which can absorb and reduce the propagation of sound waves and be made into acoustic material. This makes it widely used in acoustic insulation applications. It is useful in noise control and acoustic applications such as noise isolation and sound absorption processing in buildings, automobiles and audio equipments.

These characteristics of glass fiber make it a versatile material for a variety of applications in many fields.
