Ceramic fiber is a new type of lightweight thermal insulation and energy saving material which has been extensively used in industrial fields, especially in the high temperature and thermal insulation areas.

The production process of making ceramic fiber is as follows:

The main raw material for making ceramic fiber is the stone clay or a mixture of quartz sand, aluminum oxide and zircon sand. Firstly, the raw material is crushed by a crusher and made into the required size for producing ceramic fiber. Or according to percentage requirements, a mixture of industrial aluminum powder, industrial silicon powder and zirconium powder is prepared for producing different types of ceramic fiber.

The prepared raw materials are evenly stirred and sent to the electric resistant furnace by feeding trucks and mixers. The electric resistance furnace uses electrodes as a source of thermal energy. Continuous and uniform melting of raw materials is carried out. Raw materials have been melted into liquid. The molten liquid flows out through the nozzle which is protected by nitrogen. It flows to the spinning roller on the spinning machine and converts the molten material into ceramic fiber through centrifugal force. Grease is added in the fiber forming process.

During the whole production process, the operators need to wear gloves, masks, long pants, eye glasses. Ceramic fiber is a relative safe material and does not produce toxic substances, but it will produce dust in the production. If workers inhale the dust, it will stay in the human body for a relative long time. This is harmful to health.

Ceramic fiber can be further processed into different types of products such as ceramic fiber blanket, ceramic fiber boards, ceramic fiber paper, ceramic fiber cloth, ceramic fiber tapes, ceramic fiber ropes, etc. Ceramic fiber board, blankets and modules are excellent thermal insulation lining materials for high temperature furnaces and high temperature equipments. Ceramic fiber cloth, tapes and ropes are ceramic fiber textiles with superior thermal insulation and sealing property. They are mainly used as thermal insulation sealing materials to seal the doors of high temperature equipments such as the doors of furnace, ovens, boiler, etc.

Ceramic fiber and its products have low thermal conductivity, excellent resilience, fine corrosion resistance, good sealing insulation and sound insulation properties. Ceramic fiber was first invented in USA in 1940s and introduced in China in 1970s. The history of ceramic fiber and its products are not very long, but they have developed very quickly. Now they have largely replaced the heavy refractory materials.
